Tilly Luscombe

Join me every Monday morning from 11-1PM for a laid back roller-coaster ride across the decades of music!  From Gene Krupa to Stan Getz, from Chopin to Jimmy Cliff and with a dash of The Pixies for good measure, you can betcha bottom dollar it’ll be… random.  Just like my presenting style.

Music was always around when I was growing up.  My mum used to play Irish music at top volume, whilst my sister and I would sit for hours watching Hollywood musicals – singing along with Doris Day, Julie Andrews and Gene Kelly.

As a young teen, Queen was the only band for me.  Growing up in rural Hampshire, it was like nothing I had ever heard or seen before!

Many bands were to follow, with John Peel greatly influencing me along the way.  American garage punk was my thing – loud and grungey, and I still love it now!  Not content with that, I realised you need some really good funk to dance to – and you don’t get much better than James Brown.  To stoke the soul, it always has to be jazz – preferably with a gin and tonic!!

Everything Else:

I’ve been with Hastings Hospital Radio since last January, where I learnt the ropes with a very patient Jeff.  I try to do a show every Monday morning, and have even done the show a few times with my two children – who absolutely love it!  Any excuse to spin the theme from The Muppets…

I regularly “borrow” records from my long-suffering husband’s incredible and extensive record collection - without which, my show would be sorely lacking!  Any crackling during a track is always intended!

I’m currently training with Clive to do the Request Show on alternate Mondays with him, and hope to be set loose on the wards soon.  It’s a part of Hospital Radio that I really enjoy – meeting patients and finding out what might cheer them up or give them that little extra boost.

You’ll hopefully still find me behind the decks at the Conquest in many years to come!
